In honor of Women’s History Month, living history actor Ellie of ElliePresents! portrays inventor Mary Florence Potts, who perfected the cold-handled sad iron. Mrs. Potts, appearing at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, will discuss domestic life in the 19th century, the science and technology behind her invention, and what it means for a woman to hold a U.S. Patent and manage her own affairs. This program in the museum’s Freedom Hall is ideal for families and children ages 10 and up. There is no cost to attend but advance registration is required.
