Comics are often associated with children, but more importantly they appeal to adults. From the time of World War I, through today, comic characters can often appeal to the military reader as well. Abian Wallgren drew a weekly strip for Stars and Stripes in WWI, Alban Butler recounted his experiences with the Big Red One in Happy Days; and Bill Mauldin told the stories of World War II. This discussion will show how both civilian minded comics like Captain America, as well as Mauldin and others told the stories of the American soldier in the conflicts of the 20th century.
