Set in 1902, the story of three generations of woman who are members of the Gullah islanders, whose ancestors were brought here as enslaved people centuries ago. These islanders were in relative isolation and the unique culture and language from West Africa endured over time. Located on the Sea Islands of South Carolina, the Peazant family struggles to maintain their West African cultural heritage and folklore.
